The Deweyville Pirates had a good season in 2012, Head Coach Chris Babin’s first year at Deweyville. The Pirates went 8-3 and made it to the second round of the playoffs. Coach Babin recapped last season. "Tied for the district championship with two other teams, but went in as the first seed in the playoffs off of points. Got that first round bye, and got edged out in the second round versus Elysian Fields by two points," Babin said. The tough loss in the playoffs still had positive vibrations for Deweyville and Coach Babin. "It was positive, it set the tone for the next spring that followed, these kids are ready, they’re fired up and confident going into this year," assessed Babin. He added the Pirates look to build on that strong season from last year. The players feel there is some unfinished business that needs to be taken care of, and they have been doing that by putting more time in the weight room and expressing an eagerness to start the off season. "Our kids watched Elysian Fields reach the semi-finals, so now our kids feel they were a state semi-finalist caliber football team, so that has really motivated us from that game on and we haven’t stopped working, it’s been good," Babin exclaimed. more
