OC Sheriff's Calls

Copper thefts have spread around the county again. Last week the Orange County Sheriff's Office investigated five cases of theft of copper. The management of Club 87 has offered a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thieves at that business. Other victims included an Entergy substation in Vidor and a Verizon cell phone tower in Vidor. Two of the cases were reported on Sept. 24 and two more on Sept. 25. The first was reported at the Verizon cell phone tower in the 1200 block of Pine Street in Vidor. Copper was stolen from two air conditioner units. About an hour later, a copper theft was reported in the 8800 block of Cajun Way in the Orangefield area. Then on Wednesday morning, deputies were called to the 800 block of Amber Kay Road. Copper wiring had been ripped from throughout the house along with the copper tubes in the air conditioner. Another Wednesday morning call came from the Entergy substation at 6003 North Main Street in Vidor. An Entergy employee reported that about 200 feet of copper wire had been stolen. On Sunday morning, copper coils were discovered taken from two different air conditioner units at Club 87.
