The Bridge City Cardinals exploded for 14 runs in the third inning to blow away the Tarkington Longhorns 17-4 and sweep their two game series at Maguire Field in Pasadena on Friday night. The Cardinals won the first game 5-0 on Thursday and advance to the area round of the state playoffs to play the Sweeny Bulldogs next week.
Keaton Langston had an outstanding series collecting six hits in the two games including three singles in Friday’s game good for 4 rbis. He also scored three runs. Hunter Uzzle had the only extra base hits in Bridge City’s ten hits, an rbi double in the first and a triple in the wild third which also drove in a run. Ashton Hunter had the rare opportunity to bat three times in the same inning and reached base with a hit by pitch, a walk, and a rbi single.
On the mound lefty Bryson McFarland pitched shutout ball until the fifth when the Longhorns got all four of their runs. McFarland left with one out in the fifth, a run in, and a runner at third. He was credited with the victory raising his season record to 5-0. Lane Ashworth and Chaston Miller both pitched a third of an inning to close out Tarkington (13-10). With the two victories Bridge City improves to 24-3 on the season.
