The award is based on the outstanding vocational
accomplishments of Stelly and the many area events he
volunteers his time to. |

Gary
Stelly named GOACC
"Businessman of the Year" |

Gary Stelly was voted Businessman of the Year for 1998 by a panel of former winners.
Stelly was nominated for the award by his staff.
"That's what makes it so special," Stelly said.
"To be selected by your peers is a great honor, but to be
nominated by the people you work with on an everyday basis, is
every bosses dream." Stelly received the award in
June at a banquet honoring other winners from Southeast Texas. |

When Stelly took over KOGT in
1992, he brought in a blind disc jockey named Terry Lyons.
Through his work with Lyons, and the relationship that was
created between the two, Stelly was given the award by Lyons'
case worker Dave McDill. "Terry is one of the best
and most reliable employees I have," said Stelly.
"I'll take credit for hiring him, but when it comes to
work, he takes pretty good care of himself." Stelly
and KOGT were given a similar recognition by the Orange County
Mayors Committee for Employment of the Handicapped. |

Department (Nov. 07): Gary Stelly of KOGT was
recently awarded the Texas Animal
Control Association Media Award for
the coverage that KOGT has provided
on the website to the City of Orange
Animal Shelter. This statewide award
is presented yearly to an individual
or organization that has presented
animal control and animal welfare in
an accurate and positive manner.
This award is given to a radio or
television station, newspaper or
magazine or to someone who works in
that field for either a single
outstanding piece or for on-going
programs that promote responsible
pet ownership, spay/neuter programs,
and other programs that depict
animal care and control
professionals in a positive light
and promote the profession, while
reflecting the professional
credibility of animal control
activities. Mr. Stelly was nominated
by Linda Roush, the Administrative
Secretary for the OFD, who also
dispatches the City of Orange Animal
Control Officers. Through direction
of Mr. Stelly, KOGT Radio and
KOGT.com has been instrumental in
significantly increasing the number
of pet adoptions from the Animal
Shelter. With his help, the Pet of
the Week has turned into the Pet of
the Day. Mrs. Roush reports, “As
soon as the pet’s picture appears on
the website, we start receiving
phone calls. Gary has been a real
asset with finding homes for our
shelter pets.” Chief David Frenzel
of the Orange Fire Department, who
supervises Animal Control for the
City stated, “Mr. Stelly has been a
pleasure to work with and this
endeavor exemplifies one more avenue
of community involvement that he
provides to his listening audience.
We are proud to have Gary and KOGT
as part of our community and our
team and are excited that he was
recognized in this state-wide
competition.” Stelly
added, "I have always been a pet
lover. There's nothing like
coming home after work and having my
dog waiting for me. I'm glad
we have been able to bring that same
joy to others." The award was accepted
at the TACA Conference in San
Antonio last week by Theresa Touchet,
Senior ACO for the City. The
